What is MUN
Model United Nations, or MUN, is a conference that simulates the United Nations by allowing students to represent different countries and debate global issues. MUN involves public speaking, debate, and research, providing participants with the opportunity to learn about international relations and gain valuable skills in negotiation and diplomacy. The first Model UN conference took place at Harvard University in the 1920s, and the idea has since grown in popularity across universities and schools worldwide. MUN is an excellent educational activity that challenges students to engage with global issues and think critically about solutions.

Sidra Ganni
Sidra Ganni is a first-year student at Lamar University who has been participating in Model United Nations conferences since middle school. When she attended her first-ever MUN conference, she had the best experience and the most fun. Sidra hopes to translate a fun and collaborative environment for new delegates and help create enjoyable memories. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, drawing, and spending time with her family and friends.

Samad Ganni
Samad Ganni is currently a first-year student attending Lamar University and has been involved in MUN since his freshmen year of high school. As a previous delegate himself, his advice to new delegates who are participating is to push themselves to speak up and to have fun with the committee. With each coming speech is a chance for a new experience, and with experience comes growth, enriching one's skills in public speaking and critical thinking are all invaluable assets in both personal and professional realms.

Joanne Yi
Hi! My name is Joanne Yi and I am a senior at Texas Academy. I am thrilled to be the Director-General for this year’s conference. My passion for public policy, human rights, and public speaking caused me to participate in several Model United Nations conferences, collaborating with fellow delegates to create a myriad of resolutions in Legal, General Assembly, and SOCHUM committees. As this interest grew, I became president of Texas Academy Model United Nations and Texas Academy Debate, allowing me to lead and grow in global understanding and public speaking pursuits. Outside of the classroom, the desire to help marginalized communities has led me to spearhead initiatives locally as well as internationally. In my free time, I enjoy running, photography, and spending time with friends and family. I am looking forward to an amazing conference!

Maryah Javed
Maryah Javed is thrilled to be a part of this MUN Conference! She is a sophomore at Lamar University majoring in Biology with a Pre-Dental concentration. She is very passionate about Education and brings awareness to issues in the field through her research. She enjoys attending and presenting at research expos and conferences. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite hobbies are reading, baking, and crocheting.
